With regard to location (we have a walkability score of 95) we are about a five minute drive from the airport, A 15 minute walk to the Convention Center and three blocks from Balboa Park which has 17 museums, the San Diego zoo, and the old Globe Theatre. A bus goes right past the hotel and can take visitors either downtown or North about 1 mile where a beautiful sanctuary run by the self realization fellowship since the 1903 Chicago worlds fair can be found. A big plus for staying here is that most visitors will not need to rent a car.
The Hawthorne Inn also known in earlier years as the Plainsman looks exactly the same as when it was built in the 1890s. Even the interior hallways have not been altered. There are a wide hallways, the rooms are very soundproof, there is a public Study area adjacent to room 102...it is sunny, quiet and little used by other guests...it's like having a spare room to read in etc. This is the only unit with direct access to our patio area.
